Dr Basil Tryon

basil2basil1Dr Basil Herbert Tryon was born on 12th March 1949 in the small town of Umzinto, situated on the South Coast of Kwazulu-Natal. He had 2 sisters and was the youngest of 4 brothers born to George Walter Tryon and Phoebe Constance Tryon. His mother named him Basil after the doctor who delivered him. Little did she know how prophetic this name would be in defining his purpose & destiny.

The name, 'Basil', comes from the Greek word, 'Basileus' which means leader of the people, prince, commander, lord of the land, king and sovereign. If you know Dr Basil, you will know that he is a born leader –a leader amongst leaders. You will also know that he firmly believes according to the Word of God that we as children of God are Destined to Rule and Reign as Kings in Life through Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour!

basil3Dr Tryon attended Little Flower School in Ixopo. He later opened up his own Panel Beating & Breakdown Business: GT Panel Beaters. He was a hard worker and enjoyed straightening out the chassis's of damaged & twisted vehicles. What he didn't know was that years down the line, God had a similar but greater business for him to be involved in: straightening out the lives of damaged and broken people through the power of our Lord Jesus Christ.

basil4In 1970, Dr Basil, married his true love, Annette 'Call Me Anne' Novaine, shortly after meeting her whilst visiting his sick nephew in hospital. She was a Nursing Sister in Wentworth Hospital and caught his 'undivided' attention whilst walking the hospital corridor. As they say, it was love at first sight and the rest is history. They have 4 children: Michelle, Sherwyn, Shantall & Crystal.

Apostle Colin La Foy brought the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ to Dr Basil Tryon and He and Pastor Anne were saved in 1977, at the ages of 28 and 30 respectively. They would travel every week, travelling over 100 kilometers at a time, from Umzinto to Durban, together with their 4 small children, to attend services and hear the Word of God that was ministered by Apostle La Foy.
Apostle La Foy also travelled this same distance each week to conduct bible studies at Dr Tryon's home, strengthening him in his new found faith. As his spiritual father, Apostle La Foy has had a major impact in both Dr Tryopn's life and ministry.basil5

Dr Basil soon sensed the call of God on his life and within that year the Drs Basil and Anne planted their first church in Umzinto in their home. After 31 years, the church, Bethel Fellowship Umzinto Assemblies of God, is still going strong. In early 2009, Dr Tryon had the privilege of being the Guest Speaker at the Dedication of their New Church Building.

In 1980, the Tryon Family moved to Durban where Drs Basil and Anne served as the Senior Pastors of Bethel Fellowship Assemblies of God in Red Hill, Durban. Dr Tryon began Full Time Ministry at Bethel Fellowship Assemblies of God Red Hill and studied and trained under the leadership of Apostle Colin La Foy.

basil6Drs Basil and Anne trained & served in full-time ministry for 6 years and were ordained together with Bishop Robin & Pastor Jean Oliver (of Interfellowship Global Ministries) in 1984 by Pastor Stegman (General Secretary of the Assemblies of God in South Africa). Bishop Robin Oliver is Dr Tryon's closest friend and has been for the past 34 years.

Dr  Basil then sensed a call of God to plant a Local Church which would be a non-racial, non-denominational, multicultural expression of the Kingdom of God.As a result of this call of God, New Covenant Fellowship was planted and birthed by Drs Basil and Anne on the10th August 1986.From humble beginnings in a widow's home, the church later moved into a school hall and then into a cinema before purchasing their own land in Red Hill and building their own facility in 1998.

basil8The influence and impact of Dr Tryon's Ministry has been growing exponentially stretching beyond the borders of Durban and Kwazulu-Natal. Dr Tryon has become a sought after International Conference Speaker conducting conferences around the world in countries such as Australia, the United Kingdom, Mauritius, the USA and Canada.

In the late 90's Dr Tryon's Ministry launched out onto the airwaves as he began the weekly Radio Broadcast on Highway Radio. basil9Between the mid-nineties and the first few years of the new millennium, Dr Tryon's Ministry branched into the corporate sector as he conducted various Motivational, Personal Development & Leadership Courses at many corporate companies addressing Managers, Directors and CEO's of a number of South Africa's Blue Chip companies. He also served on a panel of counselors for all the staff of one of the largest banking institutions in Africa for over 6 years.

In August 2008, Dr Tryon was consecrated into the Office of Bishop by Bishop Tudor Bismark, Senior Bishop Bismark and Bishop David Lazarus at an auspicious ceremony held at New Covenant Fellowship during the church's annual Jubilee Conference. This marked the recognition and acknowledgement of the valuable contribution he has made to the Body of Christ in serving faithfully in the Ministry for over 30 years, his Courageous Leadership, Godly Integrity, Sincere Humility, Bold Faith, Fathering Spirit, and the Apostolic Oversight given to many ministries.basil11
